Comment of the day

What should Formula 1 do if the coronavirus makes it impossible to run the Chinese Grand Prix in April?

An unexpected break would be more logical than trying to reschedule events at short notice. Cancelling a race should remain a last resort and should not be used to force changes to other events, especially when individual promoters are involved.

Modern calendars leave little room to reschedule cancelled races. You’re unlikely to see the flexibility of past decades, such as when Belgium’s 1985 race was moved after track damage; the current schedule simply doesn’t allow it.
