Audi will run a special livery at this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix to honour pre‑war racing legend Tazio Nuvolari.

The team has replaced parts of the fluorescent red on its R26 livery with a bright yellow, applied to elements such as the rear flashes on the sidepods and the four‑ring Audi logo on the rear wing.
That four‑ring emblem also appeared on the Auto Union cars Nuvolari raced in the 1930s. Audi was one of the four manufacturers that formed the original Auto Union; today the Auto Union legacy is part of the Audi brand.
Nuvolari famously won the 1938 Italian Grand Prix driving for Auto Union. His racing career, and the Auto Union team, were disrupted by the outbreak of World War II the following year; the team’s operations, which had been supported by Germany’s government at the time, were effectively ended by the war. Nuvolari raced only sporadically after the conflict and died in 1953.
Audi chose the Monaco Grand Prix to pay tribute because Nuvolari also won the fourth running of the Monaco race in 1932 for Alfa Romeo. This weekend Audi drivers Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto will wear special suits that match the commemorative livery.
Two other teams have introduced one‑off liveries for Monaco as well: McLaren are celebrating their 1,000th Grand Prix and Aston Martin have unveiled a colour‑changing design for the event.
