Green Confident Vettel Will Thrive After Joining Racing Point

Racing Point technical director Andrew Green believes Sebastian Vettel will regain his best form when he joins the team next year.

Vettel has struggled since learning he would leave Ferrari at the end of the season. After 10 races he sits 13th in the championship, 40 points behind team mate Charles Leclerc.

“We can help Seb,” Green said. “I think he’s not in a great place at the moment mentally. He’s lost his mojo a little bit.

“We are the best team at turning drivers around and getting them back into that sweet spot. I think we can really help him.”

Green expects Vettel will benefit from a less political environment than Ferrari. “We are very driver-focused. We take time to understand our drivers, work closely with them and form a strong relationship and bond.

“That helps nurture them and makes them feel comfortable and secure, without worrying about things happening behind their backs. We remove the politics and allow them to focus on driving as quickly as possible. I think we can get Seb back to that place.”

Vettel will “bring a new dynamic to the team” says Green

Racing Point will be rebranded as Aston Martin for the 2021 F1 season. Green says Vettel’s long career with top teams such as Ferrari and Red Bull will bring valuable experience.

“I think it’s going to bring a completely new dynamic to the whole team,” Green said. “It shows a measure of intent by Lawrence [Stroll, team owner] about where he wants to take the team and what he wants to do with it.

“That’s a strong statement. He is a multiple world champion and he will bring a methodology of working we haven’t seen before. That’s what we want.

“We want someone who has been there and done it and can show us what it takes. What does it take to start winning races? What does it take to win a championship? He’ll bring that.”
