Kimi Raikkonen said he was not surprised Daniel Ricciardo received a penalty after putting all four wheels off the track while overtaking him on the final lap of the French Grand Prix.

Ricciardo picked up two penalties seconds apart: one for running wide at the chicane while battling Lando Norris, and another for leaving the track on the straight approaching Signes as he passed Raikkonen.
Raikkonen described the first incident as “a bit on the limit” and noted Ricciardo “went off and then came back” without going dramatically wide. He felt the second incident was a clearer infringement.
“The second one, I knew there’s a track limit somewhere, especially on the straight. In some corners it can be harder to judge whether you’ve gained an advantage,” Raikkonen said.
“But I knew that if he wanted the option to go to the right-hand side, there’s space, and the rules say you can go there but you have to accept what might follow. That’s exactly where he went.”
He added: “If there had been a wall he wouldn’t have been able to go past me, it’s as simple as that. We all know the rules. You don’t constantly think about them while you’re driving, you make decisions in the moment. When he went past he probably thought ‘let’s see what happens’—and that’s the result.”
