It would have joined the unlikely winners from the midfield list of Olivier Panis in Monaco ’96, Giancarlo Fisichella in Brazil 2003, Johnny Herbert at the Nurburgring in ’99 and Pastor Maldonado in Barcelona 2012. These are the races that truly capture the imagination of fans, where an underdog defies the odds, making for unforgettable moments in motorsport history. Hill’s performance in the Arrows that day, leading the race for so long on a circuit where overtaking is notoriously difficult, was nothing short of heroic. It’s a testament to his skill and the incredible efforts of his team that he even came close, making the ultimate heartbreak all the more profound.
