FIA Probes B-Team Issues in F1 and Other Key Developments

Welcome to Tuesday’s edition of the RaceFans round-up.

Comment of the day

The FIA stewards’ explanation for investigating Max Verstappen’s pit exit violation after the race did not satisfy Icarus:

What possible angles would they need to wait for the race to finish to get? Certainly there are no on board angles that will show the outside of Verstappen’s tyre, so it had to be a stationary camera on the track. Why didn’t they have that the entire time?

This ‘after the race’ nonsense is getting more stretched each year, and it always has unknown effects on the race. Would Red Bull have changed strategies if they’d known during the race they had a penalty? Would their rivals? Would Hamilton have pushed harder to stay within those five seconds rather than drive safer assuming he couldn’t catch anyone?

We’ll never know any of these, because they wait until after the race to do anything.
