Da Costa had crossed the line less than half a second ahead of Rowland in Saturday’s race, but the Porsche driver was later removed from the official results.
Post-race scrutineering found a throttle damper spring on the Porsche that was not listed among the approved optional parts. Porsche say the same specification of spring has been used since the Gen3 car debuted last season, but they accepted the item was not on the list of permitted components.
The stewards underlined that teams are fully responsible for the conformity of their cars. Their written ruling noted that, regardless of any perceived performance benefit, a car must comply with the regulations. As a result, the Porsche was disqualified and the classification was adjusted accordingly.
The decision promotes Oliver Rowland to winner of the opening Misano race. Jake Dennis moves up to second, and Maximilian Günther inherits a podium spot despite finishing fifth on the road. ERT driver Dan Ticktum recorded his and his team’s best Formula E finish to date in fourth, while Mitch Evans is classified fifth.
Porsche has indicated it intends to lodge an appeal and has 96 hours from publication of the stewards’ decision to do so.
With the revised result, Rowland extends his championship lead to nine points over Jake Dennis. Maximilian Günther and Pascal Wehrlein are now level on points in fourth. The second race of the weekend on the revised Misano layout is scheduled for later today.
