Alonso Aims to Stay in Formula 1 After 2026 — Latest News

Welcome to Monday’s edition of the RaceFans round-up.

Comment of the day

Instead of restricting Red Bull from running a second team, Urvaksh proposes a different approach for Formula 1:

Allow each team to run a B team if they can afford it. That would boost the number of entrants and could bring back pre-qualifying like in earlier eras. It would help uncover new driving talent, give privateers a stake, and reveal fresh management talent. The series shouldn’t be limited to just a handful of manufacturers owning sister teams.

“I’ve been behind the wheel for 41 years. Deciding to stop racing will be tough and hard to accept when it happens. Time will tell and I’ll know when the moment arrives. For now I don’t feel that moment has come. I feel competitive and motivated, and I’m happy when I’m driving. I hope this season isn’t my last in Formula 1.”

“The staff don’t just prep the cars each morning. They put in time in the gym an hour or two before shifts, working on specific areas to build repeatability. We also practice pit stops every day at four o’clock with both crews, and the drivers often join those sessions. That continuity carries over into race conditions.”
