Welcome to Saturday’s edition of the RaceFans round-up.
Comment of the day
Formula 1 has taken a positive step in its engine regulations by abandoning the planned 50-50 power split for next year, according to a reader:
Assuming Domenicali doesn’t have the power to block this change simply to try to save the remains of his face, this is an encouraging step in the right direction. Not as big a step as it should have been, but at least they’ve had the wisdom to act relatively promptly (though really it shouldn’t have required any racing to take place to realise the rules were broken).

FIA 2026 F1 Regulations – Section E (Financial – power unit manufacturers) – issue 05 – 2026-05-07 (FIA – PDF)
Formula 1’s revised regulations further relax the budget cap for power unit manufacturers who trail the leaders. Any manufacturer whose power unit performance, measured by the FIA’s index, is at least 10% worse than the leader will be permitted an extra $11 million for development (rule E4.1.1t). Those within 2% receive no additional funds. An extra $8 million is available in the first season of the new rules only for manufacturers more than 10% behind. These changes are expected to help manufacturers such as Honda, which faced early-season performance challenges.
IndyCar cracks down on illegal push-to-pass use (Racer)
IndyCar has clarified its rules to prohibit drivers from using the 60hp push-to-pass boost when the system should be disabled. The update follows the Long Beach race, where the push-to-pass software failed to deactivate during a late restart, and many drivers exploited the error.
Brundle’s verdict on F1 power unit regulation tweaks, Verstappen spin recovery and Antonelli ‘magic’ (Sky)
Martin Brundle praised Max Verstappen’s recovery from a spin, noting how difficult it is to execute a full 360-degree turn in a modern, fuelled F1 car during intense racing. Brundle highlighted the skill required to keep the car pointing forward and maintain momentum.
Toyota ‘knew it would be a tough weekend’ at Spa (Sportscar 365)
Toyota expected a difficult weekend at Spa after strong form at Imola. Despite a near-pole performance and a well-executed strategy at the season opener, the TR010 Hybrids struggled at Spa, qualifying down the order. Toyota insisted the result reflected the weekend’s conditions rather than deliberate sandbagging.
