Ocon Calls Himself Extremely Lucky After Practice Crash — Race Round-Up

Welcome to Saturday’s edition of the RaceFans round-up.

Comment of the day

Pat Ruadh pays tribute to NASCAR star Kyle Busch following his unexpected death this week:

RIP Kyle Busch.

I used to have his 18 as my profile picture back when I first started coming to this site about 10 years ago when it was F1 Fanatic.

He was such an entertaining “win it or bin it” driver. He showed far more natural talent than his two championships alone would imply, and despite an abrasive personality he was someone many of us couldn’t help but cheer for.

He didn’t care about everyone’s opinion and could drive anything hard, often doing double or triple stints across different series in a single weekend.

His record for most wins across multiple categories speaks to how much he loved racing.

A poignant line from his last interview after winning in the trucks last Friday:

“Take what you can get man, you never know when the last one’s gonna be. Cherish ’em all. Trust me.”

Sprint race qualifying recap (Haas)

Esteban Ocon: “We were extremely lucky this morning because it was a hard hit, so I’m probably going to feel it tomorrow. We only damaged the front wing, which was the best thing that could’ve happened in that situation.”

Werden die Rennen 2027 kürzer? (Auto Motor und Sport – German)

The proposal outlines a moderate increase in fuel injection for 2027 that would not require hardware changes. A larger step toward the targeted 60:40 power split would be delayed until 2028. Teams would not be forced to fit larger fuel tanks or redesign monocoques, but races next year might be shortened by a few laps to ensure teams can finish with the slightly higher fuel use.

Rafael Camara recovered from mid-session contact with the wall to secure P2, with Alexander Dunne third.

Inside Cadillac’s first F1 home race – and the slow, relentless work of a new team (The New York Times)

People inside F1 appreciate how hard it is to build a team from scratch. Early signs of progress—making the 107 percent mark in qualifying and appearing at tests in Barcelona and Bahrain—were evidence of steady progress.

Date set for IndyCar’s 2027 Arlington race (Racer)

The second Java House Grand Prix of Arlington will take place March 19–21, 2027.

No penalty for Esteban Ocon for leaving the pits under a red light. The light changed 1.11 seconds before he crossed the line and the stewards determined “it is almost certain that the driver could not have seen the light change from green to red.” #F1 #CanadianGP #RaceFans

Colton Herta on the back row of the grid for both Formula 2 races on the weekend he originally expected to be starting the Indianapolis 500. Ouch. #F2 #IndyCar #Indy500
