Hamilton Thanks Ferrari for Moving Mountains After Best Result for Team

Lewis Hamilton said his best result with Ferrari so far reflects the adjustments the team has made for him since he joined at the start of last year.

Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, passed Max Verstappen to finish second at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He said he “had so much fun out there all weekend” and felt far more confident in the car than earlier in the season.

“I felt like we started on the right foot, came with the right attitude and the car generally felt great,” Hamilton said.

He credited his pre-race routine — which this weekend included skipping his usual simulator session — and working closely with his engineer for the improved performance.

“I chose a different set-up this weekend by carefully analysing the data and collaborating closely with my engineer. He’s been fantastic and I’m really enjoying working with him. My number two also did a brilliant job this weekend and helped me extract more performance from the car, putting it into a much sweeter place.

“I was finally able to attack every corner. There have been a lot of changes I’ve had to ask for. Fred [Vasseur, team principal] has been incredibly supportive, moving mountains to make me comfortable, and that’s starting to show in my performance.”

Hamilton’s second place was also Ferrari’s best result of the season to date. He said the outcome offers reason for optimism as the team prepares for the next races.

“It’s definitely encouraging. This weekend many teams, including Mercedes, brought significant upgrades and a lot of people introduced new parts here. We introduced our big upgrade in Miami and the factory team are working extremely hard.

“We hope to have more parts arriving soon. Considering Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is very focused on straight-line speed and we still managed to hold on and secure this result, that gives me real hope for what’s ahead. We must keep pushing and keep finding more performance.”
